Gabrielle Grifno, PhD

Visiting Scientist

Gabrielle graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2020 with a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a minor in Philosophy, and subsequently earned her PhD in Biomedical Engineering. At Johns Hopkins, she worked in Professor Peter Searson’s laboratory to optimize stem cell sources for generating three-dimensional in vitro models of the blood–brain barrier.

In the Nia Lab, Gabrielle studies normal and diseased lung physiology using mouse models and the Crystal Ribcage platform. Her research focuses on respiratory, vascular, and lymphatic dynamics across multiple spatial scales in the intact, functioning lung, both in health and in lung cancer. She also investigates real-time immune dynamics during acute infection and within the tumor microenvironment.
